Inspiration from Art Miami: A Journey Through Private Galleries in the USA

Recently, one of the most prestigious and anticipated art fairs in the USA, Art Miami, concluded in the heart of Miami’s cultural district. Known for its incredible diversity of contemporary and modern art, this event attracts collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts from around the world.


Art Miami features works from over 150 international galleries, including paintings, sculptures, photography, and installations by both established and emerging artists.

In 2024, the fair ran from December 3 to December 8, dazzling visitors with a vibrant array of creativity: hyper-realistic sculptures, captivating installations, and richly expressive paintings. This event has become a cultural hub, uniting artists and collectors while celebrating the vitality of art.

Inspired by the spirit of Art Miami, we invite you on a journey through private galleries in the USA with notable presences in California. Each of these galleries is unique, offering its own character and vision, continuing to shape and enrich the American art scene.

Gagosian Gallery

Founded by Larry Gagosian in Los Angeles in 1980, Gagosian has grown into a global network specializing in contemporary and modern art, with numerous galleries worldwide. In the USA, the gallery operates five spaces in New York and one in Los Angeles.

In New York, the Madison Avenue 980 location is hosting The Street, curated by Peter Doig, until December 18. This exhibition explores urban life through various artistic lenses. Meanwhile, at Park & 75, Katharina Grosse presents her works in Pie Sell, Lee Slip, Eel Lips until December 21. The renowned German artist is celebrated for her vibrant, expressive paintings and large-scale installations that explore the interplay of color and space.

In Los Angeles, at 456 North Camden Drive in Beverly Hills, you can view Sabine Moritz’s works until December 21. The artist presents 20 new paintings featuring dense layers of brushstrokes that utilize the emotional power of color while maintaining a consistent visual rhythm.

Pace Gallery

Pace Gallery is a leading contemporary art gallery founded in Boston in 1960 by Arne Glimcher. It is present in nine countries, including New York, London, Seoul, Hong Kong, Geneva, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, and represents many of the most significant artists and estates of the 20th and 21st centuries.

In Los Angeles, until January 18, 2025, you can view Loie Hollowell’s works in Overview Effect. This is the artist’s first solo presentation in Southern California, featuring six of her largest works, each measuring 8 by 6 feet, along with two new, smaller multi-part paintings exploring the theme of the female body.

In New York, at 510 West 25th Street, British artist Pam Evelyn’s first solo exhibition in the USA, Frame of Mind, runs until December 21, 2024. Evelyn presents nine abstract paintings, including four monumental diptychs measuring 16 feet wide. She creates intricate compositions through layering, scraping paint, and reworking forms, bringing her paintings to life on canvas.

Hauser & Wirth

Hauser & Wirth is one of the world’s most renowned contemporary art galleries. Founded in Zurich in 1992, it now operates branches in multiple locations worldwide, including a vibrant space in downtown Los Angeles and several in New York. The gallery is more than just an exhibition space; it is a cultural center featuring gardens and a restaurant.

In Los Angeles, until January 5, 2025, the gallery presents Firelei Báez’s exhibition The fact that it amazes me does not mean I relinquish it. Báez is known for her vivid, deeply resonant works that intertwine history, myths, and culture. Her pieces tell visual stories rich with symbols and fantasy.

In New York, at 542 West 22nd Street, Earth & Sky by Lorna Simpson runs until January 11, 2025. Known for her powerful works blending photography, painting, and installation, Simpson explores the relationships between nature, memory, and cultural identity. Concurrently, Annie Leibovitz’s Stream of Consciousness runs until January 11, 2025, focusing on nature, landscapes, and everyday scenes, departing from her signature celebrity portraits.

Berggruen Gallery

Founded in 1970 by renowned American art dealer John Berggruen, Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco specializes in contemporary art, showcasing works by both established and emerging artists.

Until January 9, 2025, visitors can view new works by Scottish artist Callum Innes, celebrated for his abstract paintings that explore the interplay of light and color. Additionally, the Wild Margins exhibition by Diana Al-Hadid features sculptural installations combining architectural elements with figurative art.

Kohn Gallery

Founded in 1985 by Michael Kohn, a former editor of Flash Art magazine and art critic for Arts Magazine, Kohn Gallery has become a significant part of Los Angeles’s art scene, showcasing works by both established and emerging artists.

Until December 21, the gallery features several exhibitions. Shiwen Wang presents ten new abstract compositions exploring the ephemerality of nature and life. Additionally, Hadi Alijani debuts in the USA with a series of six still-life paintings in acrylic on canvas. His works blend Eastern and Western perspectives, creating a unique visual language infused with humor and artistic sensitivity.
