Powering Marketing Excellence: A Conversation with Jessica Zuckier, President of AMA South Florida

Especially with their Marketing Awards Ceremony coming up on May 18th in Miami, I wanted to meet the woman leading this powerful movement.

I interviewed Jessica Zuckier, President of AMA South Florida — and let me tell you, she is on a mission. We discussed everything from building careers to honoring creativity, and her energy is truly contagious. Sergey: Jessica, for those unfamiliar, what is the AMA all about — and why does it matter today more than ever?

Jessica: The American Marketing Association (AMA) is the world’s largest community of marketing professionals — with 65+ chapters and over 29,000 members globally. But beyond the numbers, AMA is about empowerment. We bring marketers together, provide them with tools to grow, and celebrate innovation in all its forms. Our mission is to be the most relevant force shaping marketing worldwide — helping people stay ahead in an ever-evolving landscape.

Sergey: You’re leading the South Florida Chapter. What makes your community special?

Jessica: South Florida is diverse, fast-moving, and incredibly creative — and our chapter reflects that energy. We’re a place where marketers, agency owners, and entrepreneurs can connect, learn, and grow. What sets us apart is our local focus. While we’re part of a global organization, we tailor our events, content, and community outreach specifically to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and the greater South Florida area. It’s professional development with a hometown feel.

Sergey: What kinds of people do you serve? Is it just for full-time marketers?

Jessica: Not at all. We welcome everyone — from marketing executives to students, freelancers, small business owners, and even academics. If you’re curious about marketing or want to get better at it, there’s a place for you here. You don’t need to be a marketing pro to join — you just need a desire to learn, grow, and connect.

Sergey: I love that. Now Jessica, let’s talk about events. What can members expect from AMA South Florida?

Jessica: Oh, we have a little bit of everything! From virtual learning sessions and panel discussions to in-person mixers across Miami, we aim to make our programming both educational and engaging. Plus, through AMA National, members also gain access to certifications, mentorships, webinars, and cutting-edge resources.

Sergey: As someone who works with a lot of college students and young professionals, I’m curious — how does AMA support them?

Jessica: We’re proud of our Collegiate Community, which includes over 300 college chapters and 10,000+ student members. We host an International Collegiate Conference every spring and a Virtual Summit in the fall. We also offer grants and career forums to help students transition into the professional world. For young marketers, AMA is a career-launching rocket ship.

I love that you’re celebrating excellence in such a bold way.

Jessica: Yes! This is our signature event — a red-carpet-style celebration of the best and brightest in South Florida marketing. Held at the historic O Cinema in Miami Beach, it will have a touch of old Hollywood glamour, networking, a cocktail reception, and incredible energy. We’re honoring individuals and teams across six exciting categories, and submissions are open to everyone. No entry fees. Just submit your work by April 15!

Sergey: What are the categories?

Jessica: This year we’re recognizing:

• Best Branding of the Year

• Marketing Team of the Year

• Marketing Campaign of the Year

• Digital & Social Media Campaign of the Year

• PR & Communications Campaign of the Year

Sergey: As someone who produces multiple events, I understand just how crucial sponsorships and partnerships are to making them successful. What opportunities are available for sponsors and partners to support the chapter and this event?

Jessica: We have three sponsorship tiers:

• Sponsors support us financially and receive year-round exposure.

• Partners offer in-kind services or products that support operations.

• Event Partners help with specific events — like catering, giveaways, or venue support.

In return, they get social media features, email spotlights, display tables, and speaking time at events. It’s a fantastic visibility opportunity in the South Florida business space.

Sergey: I love that you’re creating platforms for recognition and community building. Jessica, how else does the Awards event help connect the local marketing ecosystem?

Jessica: I want to:
