Design Week Sacramento celebrates, supports local artists and the creative economy

The nonprofit Capitol Creative Alliance held its second annual Design Week Sacramento from Oct. 14-19 with community events throughout the city, culminating in a two-day conference at The Urban Hive downtown.
This grassroots effort brought together artists and creative workers for 13 community events that included artist studio tours, workshops and networking opportunities. The conference’s robust programming included talks by 24 presenters on a variety of topics pertaining to the creative industry, from organizing a portfolio to preventing burnout.
During a breakout session on mentorship, creative director and CCA board member Amanda Sebastiani noted that “Sacramento’s greatest export is creative talent.” To counteract this reality, the CCA created this event with the goal of strengthening and supporting the creative workforce so that Sacramento can retain its artists and creative workers.
